STAR WARS BEGINS

It's best to just go to GEEKOLOGIE (using the URL above) and watch the whole thing, but I wanted to chime in with my own take on this frankly magnificent work.

STAR WARS BEGINS is a phenomenal and totally unexpected approach to the now-stale "Making of" format of film documentaries. Taking the film itself, shot by shot, Jamie Benning has used audio interviews, alternate shots, and behind the scenes footage to create what feels like the most comprehensive and interesting study of a single film I've ever seen.

STAR WARS fans will find much to enjoy here, but my comments are directed at film buffs. Wouldn't it be amazing to see a documentary like this for your favorite film? Couldn't you imagine CASABLANCA or LAWRENCE OF ARABIA getting this sort of in-depth treatment, studying the film within the context of the film itself? It's surprising that nobody else has attempted this before now (certainly with STAR WARS, which has a cottage industry of such fan projects) and it's agreeable to see it done so well. One can only imagine how much better a project like this might be with the filmmakers' cooperation.
